We are a small dojo and unfortunately do not have extra uniforms or equipment onsite to offer to students at this time. With the rise in e-commerce, purchasing an inexpensive martial arts gi is relatively easy and any white uniform is acceptable for a beginner.
Below is our list of recommended items to purchase for your Aikido practice, if you have the desire to spend a beyond the basic martial arts uniform. The recommended website have been linked in the buttons below. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out.
Aikido Gi
The classic “white pajamas” that are iconic to martial arts. Aikido Gis tend to be a little sturdier at the seams to account for some grabs and throws when compared to uniforms for non-grappling martial arts. The links below lead to Aikido Gi’s sold online, but if you have a martial arts store near you, a judo gi would be a good buy for aikido practice.
Bokken
The Japanese wooden sword, occasionally referred to as the bokuto (or aiki-ken by aikido practitioners,) is usually the size and shape of a katana and is used in aikido weapons practice.
Tsuba
Generally a simple hand guard made of plastic, leather or other natural materials. Not all bokken may be sold with a tsuba and not all tsuba are sold with a tsubadome (rubber to keep the tsuba in place.)
Jo
A wooden staff, sometimes referred to as an aiki-jo by aikido practitioners, is used to practice both solo movements and forms, as well as kumi-jo partner practice.
Tanto
A wood dagger used to practice disarming techniques in Aikido.
