Four Class Course $50 Per Person, 4 Person Limit

The Wolf Moon Dojo is dedicated to providing a safe space to practice the art of Aikido. We understand that you may wish to begin your Aikido training with us and this course is designed for students who would like to start their journey at the Wolf Moon Dojo. You must first take this four week introduction course which familiarizes you with training Aikido, dojo etiquette and the house rules before you can join in our regular practice. The first four Saturdays or Sundays of every month will follow the course schedule below. You may sign up at any time and start the course at any point, but you must take all four classes (in any order.)

Class Goals

  • Familiarize each prospective member with the Wolf Moon Dojo training space and “house rules.”
  • Familiarize each prospective member with the culture, classes, and techniques of a traditional Aikido dojo.
  • Familiarize each prospective member with the basics of ukemi, suwari-waza and kumiuchi.
  • Familiarize each prospective member with the traditional wood weapons: jo, bokken and tanto.
  • Familiarize each prospective member with their instructor and their training group.

Class Schedule

Class 1 – Introduction to Dojo Etiquette, Japanese culture, Japanese vocabulary, and introduction to Aikido backfalls, forward rolls and introduction to a technique utilizing both ukemi variations.

Class 2 – Review of the techniques learned in the previous class, introduction to knee walking, introduction to Aikido strikes and pins. 

Class 3 – Review of techniques and movements learned in the previous classes and introduction to Aikido wrist grabs and a technique utilizing wrist throw.

Class 4 – Introduction to short staff (jo,) Japanese dojo weapons etiquette and common jo movements. Introduction to sword (bokken/bokuto), how to hold and stand, sheath/unsheath and common cuts.
